This was every movie ever made: cowboys & Indians, Jurasic Park, Dances With Wolves, John Wayne shoot-em-ups, over the top military invasions, Blue Lagoon with a bit of Pinoccio thrown in for good measure. Flawless heroes, irredeemable bad guys in a military-industrial ecological fable. No shade of grey, just right vs wrong for more than 2 irretrievable hours. Is it a movie? Is it a video game? Is it a creature feature? Is it Jason and the Argonaughts? Aaaarrrrrggggggh! Ok, in fairness, it WAS visually stunning, but the scenery & computer tricks didn't compensate for the heavy-handed morality tale.

Sounds horrible.

Yes, it wasn't the best 2+ hours I've ever spent. I don't know about you, but I crave a bit of ambiguity in conflict. There were absolutely NO redeeming features about the bad guys & no flaws whatsoever in the heroes. Computer animation fans should be thrilled -that part was so realistic that I often forgot it wasn't real. Unfortunately, also not real interesting.

Well, my feelings on the movie are complex (a bit more complex than the story). First, I have to clarify that I saw it in 3D. I don't see much point in seeing it any other way. I also went into the theatre reluctantly. The only reason we were going to see it was because 'The Lovely Bones' has not been released (I enjoyed the book).

I liked it. There are lots of deep movies with complex characters that I enjoy, but sometimes, just sometimes, I like to wade to the shallow end of the pool (see my love for the movies Hackers, Bring It On and the television show Jersey Shore).

Okay, okay, Avatar is nowhere near as bad as Jersey Shore, sorry James Cameron.
